Detective Matthew Shay is an experienced narcotic investigator with over 23 years of law enforcement experience, 19 of which were with various Drug Enforcement units. Matt joined the Phoenix Police Department in 1995 retiring after 22 years before becoming a Deputy with the Maricopa County Sheriffs Office serving in their Special Investigations Division.
Detective Shay has participated in all forms of narcotic investigation from hand to hand buys of illicit drugs on the street of Phoenix, to federally run wire taps, open desert drug interdiction operations and clandestine laboratory investigations. Matt was active in the clandestine methamphetamine laboratory investigations that plagued the state in the early 2000’s and today is involved in numerous fentanyl investigations including being federally certified to investigate and dismantle fentanyl labs and pill pressing operations . He has purchased , or seized every known type of illicit drug and narcotic in available in the state of Arizona over his career as a “Narc” . While doing so he has been awarded over 20 state, national and even international awards.
Matt used these experiences to instruct new sworn officers, his fellow detectives, Hazmat first responders, citizen groups, college students and the general public on current trends, hazards and the basic understanding on the use, sales, transport manufacture and effects of drugs in and on our society.
Matt has developed some specific expertise on marijuana production, cultivation and sales as well and the manufacture and purifying of narcotic cannabis as well as the various crimes that surround those activities. He is generally considered and consulted as a state wide expert on Marijuana Production , Illicit Narcotic cannabis labs , and the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act as it impacts law enforcement.
