Happy March Everyone,
This is a short month because of Spring break and we have a lot planned. This month our Science focus will be on electricity and magnets. In Math, we will be exploring ways to measure lengths. Our Music and Me focus will be Animals on the Farm. We will continue learning our ABC’s and the sounds they make. We are going to explore the writings of Dr. Seuss this month. If you would like to come and read to us, please let me know. Art in the Garden is an annual art show in Carefree that we participate in. This year we chose the artist Jackson Pollock. We learned a little about him and then did a piece of art in his style. The event will be held on Saturday, March 7th at the Sun dial. We will celebrate spring with a class party on Wednesday, the 18th from 2:10-3:00pm, all are invited. Parent-teacher conferences are coming up this month, I will be sending out a sign up very soon. I cannot believe how the time is flying. We love the cooler fall weather. I want to say a huge THANK YOU to all of you who came and helped make our fall party a success. Our room moms worked very hard and did a great job! I always enjoy having families at school. This month our Science focus is going to be States of Matter. We will explore matter as liquid, solid and gas. We will continue to learn from our friendly alien “Z” how to be a good friend. We are beginning to practice writing some letters and numbers. Please do not worry if your child’s writing is still looking like scribbles. It will come in time and development. We will be talking about families this month. We will be exploring how families are both alike and different. If you have not sent in a baby picture of your child, please do so. We will be reading books about gratitude and talking about what we are thankful for as Thanksgiving approaches. We will turn our classroom tree into a thankful tree. Our Kindermusik theme this month is “Let’s Play”. The children are doing very well at our Encore classes, which are PE, Art, Music and the Library. They are very excited to talk about the activities they are doing in each one. We are thankful that you have chosen to share your children with us, Mrs. Grandprey Mrs. Wiggins Welcome to September. We have been busy getting to know each other and getting used to our school routine. The children are doing very well and becoming fast friends. Please make sure and check your child’s file folder at the end of the week, we are putting anything that needs to go home in there. Our Science focus for September is going to be Newton’s first law of motion. We will discover that an object in motion will stay in motion and an object that is still will stay still until something affects it. We are continuing to practice counting and sorting and singing about it too! We have begun our Learning Without Tears handwriting curriculum. You will see some scribbles coming home soon. We will begin our Kindermusik curriculum this month. This wonderful music program incorporates music and literacy as well as physical movement. Our theme for September is “On the Go”. We love going to our Encore classes. The children are doing a great job of listening and learning music, art, P.E. and Library We will be exploring books with STEM projects this month. If you would like to come and read to us, please let me know. Preschool pictures will be taken on the same day as elementary this year and the photographer will be Lifetouch. Picture day is Friday,September 13th for all students. If your child is in the T/Th class, you are welcome to bring them on Friday to get their picture taken. It is so hard to believe that our year together is almost over; it has been such a pleasure being a part of your family this year. Thank you so much for your love and support. We have a busy last few weeks. Our science focus this month is light and mirrors We will be reviewing our letters and continue our review of numbers and shapes. Our Music and Me focus is Splash! We have also made some musical instruments, which may have come home. We have quite the band in our room. Please make sure to send a water bottle to school as the weather is getting warmer and please check the extra clothes in backpacks to make sure that they are for warm weather. All students and parents are invited to come and celebrate our friends who are going to Kindergarten and party with us on Thursday the 24th at 10:00am.That is an early release day so we are dismissed at 11:30. Our last day of school is Tuesday May 29th. There are some great things happening during the summer, so be sure and look at the summer catalog for ECS. Thanks again for a Great year! We will begin this month by talking about Groundhog Day and what it means. We will explore animals that hibernate in the desert. This month our Science focus will be on features of the Sun. Our Music and Me focus will be Animals- A-Dancing. We will explore different animals and their habits through music and movement. We will continue learning our ABC’s and the sounds they make through our Frog Street Press big books. We are going to explore the writings of Robert Munsch this month. If you want a good laugh, read Thomas’ Snowsuit. The children continue to excel in Mandarin. They amaze me every day with their mastery of the language. If you are interested in having your child in immersion next year in kindergarten, make note of the meeting coming up this month. Ask your child about their goals they are working on at school. Each child has chosen three goals that he or she are working hard to master. Some are social and others are academic, we have them listed on a board in the classroom. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. We are excited to be back at school! A huge thank you to Bridget Decker and all of you that helped make our holiday party a big success! This month our Science focus will be on thermodynamics. We will be exploring temperatures in the Solar System. We will explore color-changing Slime as one of our experiments. We can always use extra hands for our science explorations. If you are interested, please let me know. Our Music and Me focus will be Carnival. We will explore playing different instruments and singing. We will be doing a quilt project this month and talking about what makes us unique. This month we will work on the letters F,E,H,T The children will begin signing in each day by writing their name on a paper that will go home on Fridays. We have begun a new approach to learning in our class called Personalized Learning. Our district is introducing this approach. The children have chosen goals that they are working on getting better at, for instance, Playing with friends, or walking in a line. The children are excited to pick their own goals for learning.
