We hope everyone had a great break and we are excited to be back at school and ready for some fun and learning with our friends!
December was so much fun! We had a so much fun baking, decorating, singing, our field trip to the MIM, visits from Santa’s elves, and of course our sing a long performance. We hope you loved the special gifts your children created for you as well.
We will begin January by creating art to decorate our walls with. Starting Jan 14th we will begin our letter theme. We will create a letter book that we will add to over the next few weeks. We will also begin our journals. We would love if everyone could bring one composition style notebook byJanuary18th. We will begin using them the week of the 21st. (I will send a reminder too.)
Before break we talked about the children’s sign in board with the kiddos. We would like to have the children start “signing in” everyday as well. They will write their name on the dry erase board. If they can’t yet, please let them write the lines or other shapes they may put next to their name. This style of writing is a pre cursor to writing and I don’t want to discourage it.
Our letter theme will continue with songs, and various creations using our name and initials. We will also make edible letter creations. We will use pudding, frosting, licorice, pretzels and other items as we talk about straight and curvy letters.

October has come and gone and we are moving into November
I can’t believe how fast these months are flying by!
October was filled with fun and excitement as we finished our color theme with color mixing to create more colors and also created shape collages too. We looked around our room and found various shapes everywhere from the ceiling to the floor, and on the walls. We created some spooky art to decorate the classroom and learned some fun Halloween songs too. We pretended to be wobbly skeletons, chanted “5 Little Pumpkins” and made “witches brew” during our meeting time. We also created skeletons and practiced tracing and cutting our own pumpkins. The kids created their pumpkins from start to finish with very little help from adults. (They are hanging by the smartboard)
November will be fun filled too! We will begin November talking about fall and creating some fall colored art. After decorating our class with fall colors, we will move on to family and Thanksgiving! (If anyone has pumpkins or gourds left from Halloween that they have not carved, we will gladly take them for fun science stuff!) We will have a science assembly on November 1st that begins at 9am. Please drop off at the class between 8:50-8:55 so the children can put their things away, and we can walk up to the cafeteria.
*Thinking about the holidays coming up…Do you celebrate Hanukkah? Christmas? Have a special tradition or a special treat from another country that you would love to come share with the class? Please let us know!

This year is moving right along! They say time flies when you’re having fun.
September was filled with many fun activities and a time to continue creating friendships. We are seeing many friendships blossom amongst the kids as they learn about each other and who they enjoying playing with. We also started our Sanford Harmony buddy system where we will pair some friends up who don’t typically play together to encourage new friendships and conversations.
Some of our favorite activities for September were sharing our “About Me” posters with our friends and creating our snack mats.
October will be filled with excitement as the children start seeing all those Halloween decorations popping up... We will participate in the LMES Storybook parade on October 31st. More information to follow on this very fun storybook parade. (The preschool children will also be able to visit classrooms on this day for some special treats…)
We will finish our colors theme to start the month of October by seeing what happens when we mix certain colors. We will begin a shape theme after that and continue using the Frog Street Press color and shape theme units with our other activities.

September will be a time that we continue talking about ourselves, our feelings, and how others feel too. We will begin our Kindermusik curriculum as well. This program will have the children singing, dancing, playing instruments and learning in a fun interactive way. You will receive login code for their site and can view activities and songs that we have done in class and you can sing the same songs at home with your child.
We will also introduce our Sanford Harmony program, and Frog Street Press. Sanford harmony is a socio-emotional program that promotes strong classroom relationships amongst all students and will be incorporated into our daily plans. Frog street Press is a research-based curriculum that we will use to promote language development and early literacy skills. The themes covered this year will be letters, numbers, shapes, colors, and nursery rhymes.

Welcome to Preschool at Lone Mountain Elementary! I am so excited for this upcoming school year! Your child is entering the first preschool class at Lone Mountain, and I can’t wait to spend the school year with them!
I have so many activities, ideas, and surprises to share with your children over the next 10 months that will help them grow in numerous ways including socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically! We will have fun while learning in developmentally appropriate ways. I will also work with the kindergarten teachers to find out what skills they would like to see emerging or developed as your child gets ready to venture to kindergarten.
We will learn and play together as a class and participate in other activities such as, music, PE, art, Mandarin, library and STEM. Those will all be in addition to the fun activities in our classroom. In our class we will have Yoga, Kindermusik, and many opportunities to build our science and math skills with baking, and many experiments. I am excited to be on this journey with your children as the first preschool teacher at Lone Mountain with the first class of preschoolers!
Below you will find some information and reminders to start out the school year, We will keep you informed with updates and reminders either by email or check the parent board located by the door.
Thank you for sharing your amazing child with us!
*Please remember to sign your child in and out every day! This is required by AZ Dept. of Health.
*Please send your child with a water bottle every day. No sippy cups. A water bottle with straw is fine. Label with their name.
*Lunch- space can be limited in the fridge at times. It would be best that you pack an ice pack with your child’s lunch. We will do our best to make sure all containers make it home...remember-label-label-label :)
*Please use this Ziploc bag to send a complete set of clothing for your child to change into if there are spills, accidents, etc. label all clothing
*Please have your child wear clothes that are easy to pull up and down for when using the bathroom.
*Apply sunscreen to your child before school. We will not be outside for more than 20 minutes.
*Please send your child in closed toe shoes everyday so he or she will be able to fully participate in activities and enjoy playground time, sports, and be able to easily move around the classroom.
*Toys from home need to stay at home! We can’t be responsible for lost items and many children will have the same toy and think it is theirs. We will have many opportunities for your child to bring items from home and share with the class when we start using our sharing box on Fridays.
