Miriam Pissas & Liz Sanchez
Welcome! My name is Miriam Pissas and I have been teaching for 18 years. I am very excited to get to know all of you! At home, we speak both Spanish and Portuguese. I am from Chihuahua, Mexico, and my husband is from Sao Paolo, Brazil. We have twin boys that are attending junior year at CHHS. On our free time, we like to hike, watch comedy movies and spend time together.
My co-teacher is Liz Yarra-Sanchez. She is from Mexico City. She has three teens that attendend DWES and are now attending CSHS. During their free time, they enjoy going to the movies and seeing new places.
This school year we will create, learn, play and have fun while learning Spanish. Thank you for entrusting your children to us. We are looking forward to an amazing year!
About Spanish Immersion
This preschool class, housed at the Desert Willow School, allows children between 3-5 years of age to experience their day exclusively in Spanish. Language immersion is an educational approach, especially effective for young children, that results in second language acquisition. The Emergent Curriculum is an approach to teaching, learning and advocacy for children. Teachers record these observations to reflect on developmentally appropriate ways to help children expand their academic and social potentials. Long term projects connect core academic areas in and out of the classroom.
